Anastasia Myskina

Russian tennis players Anastasia Myskina and Nadia Petrova unexpectedly made early second-round exits Wednesday night at the Rogers Cup, which commenced last August 12 and will end on the 20th. Sixth seeded Myskina yielded to No. 25 Israeli player Shahar Peer who surprisingly finished her off with a 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 6-4 win. Myskina, the 2004 French Open champion, was also unexpectedly defeated by the 3rd seeded Chinese player Zheng Jie, 6-4 6-1, in the Nordic Light Open final last Sunday in Sweden.

Petrova fell

On the other hand, third seed Petrova fell to her fourth consecutive loss after another Russian player Anna Chakvetadze defeated her, 6-1, 6-4. A couple of weeks ago at San Diego, Petrova also lost to Chakvetadze in her first match after a two-month break due to a groin injury. Petrova said she probably needs more matches to get herself back into the game shape.

Together with Anastasia Myskina and Nadia Petrova, 2005 US Open champion and top seed player Kim Clijsters, also made a surprise exit in the second round of the Rogers Cup due to wrist injury.
