Phonak Team

Shortly after the B sample test result of the awarded 2006 Tour de France winner Floyd Landis confirmed the previous result that said he had abnormally high levels of testosterone in his body during the competition’s stage 17, his cycling team Phonak will soon disband. Although there are other factors involved in the decision, doping allegation against Landis was “the deciding factor.” Phonak Cycling Team owner Andy Rihs said that he is “bitterly disappointed” that cycling is now associated with doping.

Phonak however will still be competing in the remaining cycling events happening before the end of the year. Aside from Landis, there were other Phonak cyclists who got involved in doping controversies. One was Tyler Hamilton, who was the team’s most promising racer in the 2004 Tour de France; however, he crashed and withdrew from the race. On the following year, he was found guilty of doping and was suspended from any competition until September 22 of this year.
