If you won’t be able to go and witness the golf season’s final major championship on August 14-20 at the Medinah Country Club, don’t worry you still have a chance to watch your favorite golfers play live on PGA’s official site, PGA.com. Yes, it’s for free. Thanks to Hitachi, GM’s Buick and Travelers Corp, the sponsors of the event’s live Internet broadcast. Live coverage of the 2006 PGA Championship will be provided by Turner Network Television and CBS Corp starting on August 17, 2006. This will be the first free live online broadcast of a golf tournament in the US.
The PGA championship is among the four major championships in men’s golf and the last of the season. It is conducted by the PGA of America as part of the PGA Tour. The third of the four major annual tournaments was the recently concluded British Open where Tiger Woods won his 11th professional major title. Woods now ranks second (tied with Walter Hagen) on the all-time list of golfers. If he makes another major tournament win this coming PGA Championship, Woods be solely at number two spot next to the legendary Jack Nicklaus.
