6 years ago (1997) I traveled to another country to pursue a degree in college. I had very few relationships with women until I got to junior year (2000) & met this gorgeous girl. We started hanging out but for some reason she wasn't ready for dating yet. I started to have strong feelings for her a month later and I conveyed them in several ways but they were not met with a romantic welcome.

I hung around as long as 3-4 months and won her friendship. Just before getting into senior year she decided she was ready for it and we got the whole thing moving. I lived the relationship of my life during senior year and she repeatedly told me that she felt the same way. For some reason my parents disapproved of her: her style, friends, attitude, etc. I was able to understand my folks point of view because in their eyes she was an "overly independent, career oriented, somehow opportunistic" person. My folks exaggerated everything but I avoided their interference until one day when she decided to visit our house for a weekend lunch.
