Exercise is advised to women even in pregnancy. However, it should only be done in moderation because more than the prescribed can be very harmful, even to the point of causing miscarriage. Those who are still on their first trimester in particular are being warned against exercising too much. The exercises pointed out in a certain study that increases the risk of miscarriage are jogging, playing racket and ball games. When I read the news about this I couldn’t help thinking are there really pregnant women out there who still engage in these activities? I’d have thought they already take things slow… But this study should serve as a warning for those who still do them.
This study that was done in Denmark involved 92,671 pregnant women. The researchers from University of Southern Denmark surveyed this population of pregnant women of their exercise practices in order to come up with their findings. So, those who undergo high-impact exercises for more than 7 hours a week are four times more at risk. Even those who walk or dance are two times at risk. The safest thing is leisure exercises. The study also says that swimming is also another activity that will be not harm the pregnancy.
