Misconception About Tomatoes’ Anti-Cancer Value

Have you been using lots of tomatoes and tomato sauce in your menu because you believe that this can help reduce the risk of cancer? You can lessen your intake of it because according to a review done by the folks over at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration there is not much proof that shows that tomatoes or lycopene can really combat cancer. However, its anti-cancer benefit is not a total wipe out because it can still help reduce certain cancers – ovarian, prostate, pancreatic and gastric cancer but not for colon, breast, endometrial or cervical cancer.

Lycopene alone cannot reduce cancer risk; it must be taken in with other kinds of food in order to be effective. Some of the ideal foodstuffs that can be included in the diet with lycopene are whole grains, soy and beans since they are jampacked with nutrients, fibers, phytochemicals, minerals, phytosterols and antinutrients that when they all merge can be more effective.
