Ready to eat foods or those vacuum-packed goodies are sometimes very welcome supplements especially when you’re just too tired to move, much more cook right? However, a warning has been sounded about these vacuum-packed foods as they can be the breeding ground for bacteria and bugs that can cause health hazard such as food poisoning. We all know that these products are carefully packed in order that oxygen will not be present in it thereby making it last long.
However, this technique is not all good because an oxygen-free environment is just perfect for the harmful bacterium called Listeria monocytogenes – a bacterium that’s accountable for food poisoning that can kill 25% of persons who unluckily ingests it. This has been the findings in the study made at the Technical University of Denmark. The bacterium can thrive on both oxygen-deprived and oxygen-rich environment but the one in the oxygen deprived is even more invasive.
So the best advice would be to opt for freshly cooked food as much as possible, especially if you have growing children. Fresh food versus vacuum-packed, which is better? Well, you know that answer.
