Sexually transmitted diseases are still in abundance these days. Abstinence is one of the ways so as not to contract any STD, but for sexually active people the key to protect their health will be just to use certain protection. This is what New York City officials did - they gave away 150, 000 condoms for free last Wednesday, February 14. Wrapped up in black and shiny packaging with bold NYC letters in circle, the new and official New York brand of condoms were given away in various subway stations and city areas.
This condom distribution is actually the culmination of last year’s - also Valentine’s Day – health department announcement that it was developing the first New York City –branded condoms. These condoms were made in Malaysia with expiration date of September 2011.
NYC condoms will also be given to local community groups for distribution in more than 100 nightspots. To boost New York City’s drive to reduce STDs and unwanted pregnancies some well-known personalities have also joined in on the drive, one of them is designer Kenneth Cole. NYC condoms will also be available in his stores as well as in Theory stores.
