A study of 8,179 reported in the British Medical Journal says that intelligent children are more likely to become vegetarians later in life!

So is there an IQ link with being vegetarian?

A UK university team found that people who are vegetarian by the age of 30 had recorded 5 IQ points more on average at the age of 10.

What does that mean?

There were two tests conducted 20 years apart on the same people. The smarter ones at age 10 all turned out vegetarians 20 years later.
Men who were veggies has 5 more points than meat-eaters and the same goes for woman.

“We've always known that vegetarianism is an intelligent, compassionate choice benefiting animals, people and the environment,” said Liz O'Neill, of The Vegetarian Society

Researchers say that the subjects' intelligence was also related to other factors such as education, or higher social class, but still the proof is the best so far.

Do you think that being vegetarian means you're smarter? Do you have friends who are veggies and seem smarter to you?

I agree, vegetarians are much smarter than meat eaters. They are more evolved than meat eaters. It takes a higher awareness and intelligence to question the nutritional value of what you put into your body. The non vegatarians are not intelligent enough, aware enough, or diciplined enough to follow a vegetarian nutritional program. All studies show the major health advantages of vegetarianism over eating meat. However it is quite challenging to stick to it. Only the most intelligent and the most dicipline survive.

"Only the most intelligent and the most dicipline survive."

So what about a lion killing a zebra for food/survival? The herbivore zebra doesn't survive in this case against the carnivore. PETA sometimes gets tangled up in similar conundrums all the time, referring to us as animals and yet singling us out to be somewhat apart from these rules.

Personally I find many vegetarians, smart or not, to be rather arrogant in their moral high ground.

In any case, 5 extra points on an iq test is a very vague differentiation.

I agree that vegetarians are more evolved than meat eaters, being one myself. The reason why is basically because vegetarians have more will power to get rid of animalistic attachments. Vegetarians know whats right from wrong.

By the way, well yeah a lion would kill a zebra. But what if one lion tried to take on one elephant? Of course the lion (meat eater) would stand no chance. Good thing humans dont have to worry about natural enemies. And at the end vegetarians truely survive, since the life span of a vegetarian is higher than that of a meater.

As a long term vegan my IQ has been rated in the top 5% of my country (Australia). That's just a little fact that really doesn't mean anything in the long run.
From my experience over the years, the main difference between people of my dietary habits and those who consume animal products is that animal eaters do not follow the questions through to the logical conclusion. They hear what the want to hear and then move on, nothing changed. Nothing learned. If you are not already vegan or considering to be vegan you either a: Don't know or b: don't care.
If you don't know - Go and find out. The net is a great place to start.
If you don't care - You're stupid. Simple.
