We all lead busy lives. Sometimes my day gets so fully booked that the only time I sit for a proper meal is way too late... bedtime!
So, you've finally sat home after a long hard day and want something to eat and at this point you're so tired and hungry you're not thinking about what kind of food will keep you tossing and turning all night.
When this happens...stop! Put down that burger and read on!
There are many kinds of foods that can keep you up all night and if not, they'll take away that good night's rest!
1- Coffee or caffeine related products! We know that we shouldn't drink coffee at night anyway, but caffeine can also be found in places other than coffee, like chocolate and Coca-Cola!
2- Alcohol: Although a nice glass of wine can relax you and make you feel sleepy, it greatly diminishes the quality of sleep by disturbing neurotransmitter production and also may keep you running to the bathroom all night.
3. It goes without saying that fatty foods aren't good for you. They also take much longer to digest and can keep your system busy all night long giving you a hard time.
So you're thinking that there's almost nothing left? You're wrong. There are plenty of other things you can eat, of course 45 minutes before sleeping at least:
1- Milk, turkey, cheese, chicken, soy, yogurt, nuts and seeds all have a secret ingredient: “tryptophan” which makes you sleepy.
2- Beans, nuts, seeds, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, and berries. They're all fine.
It might not be much of a midnight feast, but it will surely give you a better night's rest and more energy for the next day.
