Ever wondered why we're so different from each other?
The size of our feet, the color of our hair, our different personalities?
Well just when scientists thought they had the genetic code that builds up our bodies down to the smallest detail figured out, a team of UK-led scientist have discovered that we're even more different from each other than previously thought.
For those of us who didn't go to medical school, think of it this way...
If the body were a language, we would each have about 3 billion letters in that alphabet to make words. It was thought that the differences between us were due to the differences in the spelling of those words. But now it seems entire phrases may also be a factor. To cut a long story short, it seems that our genes are 10 times more diverse than we thought.
And of course, this makes us even more different from the closest animal. Scientists now believe that we only share 96% of our genes with apes. Although I know a few people who share much more than that believe me!
