Babies Twins

Everyone in the family rejoices when a new baby is born. But if the mother gives birth to twins or even more, there’s is no reason for not having a much greater celebration. The level of excitement certainly doubles as well. But in certain occasions, multiple birth doesn’t come as joyful as it does to most parents, especially when the twins are conjoined. Giving birth to conjoined twins could also mean multiple risks both on the part of the mother and the babies such as in the case of the Chinese twins conjoined from the chest to the lower pelvis. They underwent a complicated 13-hour surgery last July 6 in Shanghai, China.

Although the two girls were successfully separated through a surgery called by the doctors a “miracle,” the weaker baby died four days after the operation due to multiple organ failure. Fortunately, the other baby named Chen Jingni is now showing signs of improvement. She is now able to drink milk by herself, which assured the doctors that her digestive system functions normally.

Despite the death of one of the twin girls, their parents are still among the lucky ones as 40% of all conjoined twins die at birth. About 75% of them live but only for a few hours.
