Enhance Your Memory, Have Enough Sleep!

Okay, you have “valid” reasons for staying up late—you’re not playing computer games or chatting with a friend but just studying—exams is near and you got lots to read. It’s good that you care enough to study for your exams but don’t get mad at your mom when she sends you to bed even when you’re not yet too tired or sleepy because sleep might just be the reason why you keep on forgetting important pieces of information you need to pass your tests.

A study conducted by the researchers from Harvard Medical School's Center for Sleep and Cognition shows that sleep enhances memory. It particularly sharpens your ability to recall recently obtained information and recent events. The researchers noted the importance of sleep to those with “mentally demanding lifestyles” like students who often do not get enough good sleep.

Researchers emphasized that our brain engages in a lot of activities when we are asleep including strengthening our memories. Sleeping as an “inactive state” is an on old concept, researchers say. It’s time we discard that concept now and give ourselves enough time to sleep.
