Sometimes we think that vitamin intake is ok no matter what the quantity because any excess amount gets washed out with our peepee!
Well, that might be true of most vitamins but not vitamin D! Because vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, our body stores excess amounts of it in tissue.
Now, when this happens the body suffers from Vitamin D toxicity.
Vitamin D toxicity doesnt come from too much sun or too much foods that contain vitamin D, but from taking Vitamin D supplements.
Some of the symptoms of vitamin D toxicity are:
Constipation
Decreased appetite or weight loss
Nausea and vomiting
Weakness
In addition, too much vitamin D can cause calcium in the blood to rise too high, causing confusion and other changes in mental status and kidney problems.

Question. I am taking 50,000 units of vit D a day for a month. My physician sez this will be very helpful to me as a diabetic. He will conclude the treatment in the summer months and then resume in the fall. He feels it will be helpful in dealing with the metabolic symdrome.
Any thoughts.
Worried about too much Vitamin D? Then find out how much you actually have in you. Get your serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25D) level measured! This like using a dipstick to check the oil, if you think there is a car problem.
Your 25D level should be no lower than 30 ng/mL, and no higher than 100 ng/mL. If it is between 30-100 ng/mL, then be happy.
If worrying is what you like to do, you'll have to find something else to worry about.
Just get your 25D measured.
A rule of thumb: for every additional 100 IU/day of vit D3 for many months, the 25D goes up by about 1 ng/mL. (note, vit D2 is less effective).
MY DOCTOR CLAIMS I HAVE TO MUCH VITAMIN D BUT WE ARE NOT SURE WHAT IS CAUSING THE HIGH LEVEL, WE HAVE CHECKED CERTAIN FOODS AND TANNING THAT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM. WHAT COULD CAUSE THESE HOW LEVELS AND HOW COULD IT AFFECT MY HEALTHY? I AM A HEALTHY ACTIVE 51 YEAR OLD AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. IF YOU COULD GIVE ME SOME FEED BACK I WOULD APPRCIATE IT.
