The research showed that tumor cells also display the “do not eat” signal or protein that is found in healthy cells which is why the cancer cells are not destroyed by drugs against cancer. But this time, the treatment involving an antibody blocks the “do not eat” signal in tumor cells thereby allowing the immune system to destroy them.

You know what? Playing World of Warcraft might not be such a bad idea after all! For older people that is. A new study suggests that playing WOW can actually help boost cognitive abilities and keep them sharp as well.
The basis of this suggestion is the study conducted by researchers from the North Carolina State University involving 39 people with ages ranging from 60 to 77. All of them were tested in vocabulary, spatial skills, memory and ability to focus. Twenty of these were assigned to play WOW at home for at least an hour every day. After just two weeks all of them were retested and the results showed that those who played WOW had improved ability to control their attention.
Those who scored low in the initial tests had the most improvements while those who got high marks didn’t show any gains.

A team of psychologist at St. Laurence University conducted a study wherein they experimented on 159 students with a series of demanding cognitive tests. Half of them were asked to chew gum whole doing the tests while the other half were not. Their finding points out that the test results of the gum-chewing group were higher than the non-chewing bunch.
According to them, the gun-chewing group performed well because chewing what they call as “mastication-induced arousal”. This is an occurrence wherein the person becomes fully awake through chewing in order to focus on what needs to be done at that moment.

Repetitive Heading in Soccer Could Lead to Brain Damage

A study presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America in Chicago suggests that heading a soccer ball can lead to serious brain damage. The finding is that, soccer players who frequently use their head to hit the ball have “brain abnormalities similar to those found in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients.
Researchers came up with this finding by using MRI to scan the brains of 38 soccer players. The data they found led them to the implication that damage to the brain, "“isn’t from hitting headers once in a while, but repetitively, which can lead to degeneration of brain cells.”
