Whoever thought that 'New Moon' wasn't going to be as big a hit as 'Twilight' was totally off track!
'New Moon' which opened on Friday, rung in a whopping $72.7 million ... that's just on opening night! That's a record for sure!

With this huge number, 'New Moon' toppled the previous record of $67.2 million set by 'The Dark Knight' back on July 2008.
Just to compare, 'Twilight' last year rung up $36 million in its first day and $69.6 million in its first weekend.
