Rihanna finally breaks her long silence in an interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America. She revealed the truth about what happened after the much-publicized assault by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. In her statements, Rihanna admitted to going back to Chris Brown a few weeks after the attack; however, she eventually changed her mind. She decided to finally break off with Brown because of her fans.

Rihanna believed that by returning to Chris Brown, she could be endangering her fans too. She fears that they might think it is alright to stay with an abusive partner. The realization that many girls would be endangered because of her decision was a loud wake-up call for Ri-Ri.

On her interview with Diane Sawyer, Ri-Ri also expressed the shame and embarrassment she felt within herself and the people who look up to her, when the realization came. She was so deeply and unconditionally in-love with Brown that was why she did it. It’s alright now Ri-Ri; the important thing is you did the right thing in the end.
