Robbie Williams is Bigger than Michael Jackson?!

robbie williams

I'm dazed and confused! I have one question: How can Robbie Williams top a list of pop stars while Michael Jackson, who is The King of Pop, comes in at No. 3?

According to a poll by MTV UK, Robbie Williams is the Greatest Superstar Ever!
Yup! That's what British music lovers think!
Robbie even pushed his former band Take That aside, as they came in at No. 2!

The full list is as follows: (and I personally think it's a jumble)

1.Robbie Williams
2. Take That
3. Michael Jackson
4. The Killers
5. Girls Aloud
6. The Prodigy
7. Red Hot Chilli Peppers
8. Beyonce
9. Pussycat Dolls
10. Oasis

Come on! Robbie hasn't released a single in two years! And he tops the list?! That's mad ... mad I tell you!

MTV is polling a very specific demographic, which skews their results. A Pew Research Centre survey across all age groups found the top most popular groups/singers to be as follows: 1. Beatles; 2. Eagles; 3. Johnny Cash; 4. Michael Jackson; 5. Elvis Presley; 6. Rolling Stones; 7. Aretha Franklin; 8. Frank Sinatra; 9. Carrie Underwood; 10. Garth Brooks; 11. Jimi Hendrix; 12. Bruce Springsteen; 13. Mariah Carey; 14. Bob Dylan; 15. Jefferson Airplane; 16. Nirvana; 17. Madonna; 18. Coldplay; 19. Kanye West
    20. Grateful Dead. While more accurate across age groups, this survey is skewed towards American taste - as you see - no Robbie Williams in sight. Quoting further: "A Pew Research Center survey found the Beatles high on the list of every age group and other acts from the 1960s and 1970s popular among people too young to have known them when they performed. Among those under 30, Michael Jackson was the No. 1 pick. For those 30-49, the Eagles won out. People 50-64 picked the Beatles - the winners overall. For those 65 and older, Frank Sinatra can't be beat. Rock was the favourite type of music for every age group except 65 and above. Older people preferred country music, followed by classical."

This is outright stupid, doesn't make any sense. No one can be bigger than Michael Jackson. Very few outside UK and USA know who Robbie Williams is. On the other hand whole world, in every corner of planet, knows who MJ is.

robbie won because he is the best
    i also loved michael jackson
but my real love is robbie
he has a lot of fans who love and adore him
so why shouldnt he win and the fact he hasnt made any music in 3 years is testament that he still has it and is still THE BEST
there is no jumble in the poll t
    THE FANS HAVE SPOKEN

    ROBBIE WILLIAMS
    IS THE BEST
    SUPERSTAR ON THIS PLANET
LOVE YOU HEAPS AND HEAPS ROBBIE

I can tell you that you are very wrong. Robbie isnt big only in USA. Other world knows him very much and he is the biggest star in europe, south america etc

And newsmaker.. how can you tell that robbie haven't released a single in two years and its shit.. when did Jacko lately released a new single? ...

Selling 1,6 milion tickets in 24h and tour for 3,4 million viewers and sell 60 million albums wordwide isn't a "few people outside of UK know him"

And that really shows how closed eyes you have.. you know only about what you want to know.

And by the way - Robbie rocks, but Jacko should be 2.

    who is Robbie Williams??
Michael Jackson has more fans than anybody ever did. Nobody could ever compare with MJ. there are lots of good music around, but MJ is very special genius in the history of Earth.
These lists of pop stars flactuate and it is nonsence to compare. For me Nirvana is the greaterst, but Michael is in higher ranks above all, everything below can get with competion and comparing, MJ is genious and legend and did more for the musical art and the world than any other musician. Why even write such articles with daft titles

OMG, no song in a WHOLE two years? That's practically a millennium! No pun intended.
For crying out loud, that was how long it USED to always take a singer (for the most part) to come out with new material. And it probably takes that long for those who...brace yourself....write their OWN songs and are perfectionists like Robbie Williams. Gasp, shock, and awe. 2 years is NOTHING. Better than turning out drivel like many of them do every 5 minutes just so they can keep themselves in the news. For the record, I would say Robbie should be #2 BEHIND Michael Jackson because MJ runs circles around the music world every day of the week and twice on Sunday, but Robbie will be the Prince of Pop in my opinion.

i love Robbie's songs !! he's really one of my favorite singers lately !his voice is maybe average just as MJ,but i prefer Robbie's songs...i adore one of them:
When there's no love in town
This new century keeps bringing you down
All the places you have been
Trying to find a love supreme
    A love supreme

i think the british pop music is more classy than american..no offence, just an opinion.

I like Michael and i admit he was the king of pop and perfect in everything he did (performance, videos, songs )

i think Robbie Williams is a great singer but michael jackson is better , he is the king , genious , unique no comparison , I am from argentina and here as in others south american countries michael is loved, he is genious, no doubt about that.

i agree with some people when they say that the british music is better than american musis if u say the beatles tor example it is enough but in this case there is a serious mistake how can compare michael jackson with Williams of course the king is better maybe it is only in england because in the whole world michael is named legend there is no other like him and i doubt Williams can close him.

I love Robbie Williams. I adore him and his music. BUT...he just isn't the biggest popstar ever, there is absolutely nothing that supports that. It's ridiculous. But this poll was done by MTV UK and so they voted for Robbie and Take That. I bet some fan board made lots of publicity about that. And so many people voted til their fingers fell off. The fact alone that Girls Aloud and the Killers are also in there proves that this poll is bogus. Oh and I like the Killers too!

We're looking at two different demographics. This was taken in the U.K. Robbie does not have as big of a following over here in the states as he does in the U.K.
