Canadian singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan is set to receive the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award during the JUNO Awards dinner gala on Saturday, March 28th.
McLachlan, who has been in the business of making beautiful music for 20 years, is a four-time Grammy winner and has received eight Juno awards!
Her humanitarian work is undeniably impressive and effective! McLachlan, who received the Order Of Canada in 2000 for her outstanding achievements, dedication to the community and service to the nation ...
... has done so much for her community like raising more than $7 million for charities and women's shelters across North America, through her 1997 Lilith Fair, a touring festival organized to showcase and promote women in music.
You must have come across her song and music video 'World on Fire'.
The song is touching and relates to the whole world and it's whirlwind of a state it's in.
What's very impressive is that the video cost a tiny $15 to produce. The remainder of the $150,000 production budget was donated to 11 charitable organizations, including CARE, Engineers Without Borders, Help The Aged, War Child and Heifer International.
Here's a glimpse of other offerings to her community:
- She founded the Sarah McLachlan Foundation in 1999 to help bring music into the lives of young Canadians, especially in underserved communities. She established the first Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach - An Arts Umbrella Project in Vancouver's inner city four years later. The program offers students free music lessons, educational workshops, mentorship and support networks.
- She is a major supporter of the music education charity, MusiCounts, and performed for and presented instrument grants to students from Vancouver schools.
