50 Cent is mad as hell at US fast food chain Taco Bell for using his name without his permission. What aggravated him more is the fact that he was clueless about the ad campaign involving his name until a news report came out about it. In Taco Bell’s ad campaign “Why Pay More?”, 50 Cent was asked to change his name to 79 Cent, 89 Cent or 99 Cent as promotion for some of the company’s products like the Cinnamon Twists, Crunchy Tacos and Bean Burritos.
In defense Taco Bell Corp’s spokesman Poetsch, gave a statement: “We made a good faith, charitable offer to 50 Cent to change his name to 79, 89 or 99 Cent for one day by rapping his order at a Taco Bell, and we would have been very pleased to make the $10,000 donation to the charity of his choice.” I guess that explanation still doesn’t justify then using 50 Cent’s name without permission. Last Wednesday the rapper filed a federal lawsuit against the food chain. He’s asking a whopping $4 million in damages!
This is also not the first time that 50 Cent sues an establishment for unauthorized use of his name. Last year he also filed a lawsuit against an Internet ad company for using his name in an ad referred to as “Shoot the Rapper”. He claimed $1 million damages for that Internet advertisement.
