I had the dis-pleasure of watching Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks’ new movie ‘Charlie Wilson’s War’. The plot line of the movie is quite simple, it’s based on the true story of a Texas Congressman who goes by the name of Charlie Wilson. Whilst Charlie is a ‘very flawed man’ he decides to put a campaign to help the Afghans during the Soviet War in Afghanistan. As a history student myself, I will give them that the information is accurate and the depiction of the events is quite interesting to watch. However, even to someone who enjoys history the movie is a bore!

The director attempts to add interest with the several inappropriate scenes and the corruption of the Congressman, but really it only demeans the story. I would advise you to watch it merely so you can form your own opinion about what I think is a boring attempt at a historical movie. The only thing that kept me going throughout was Julia Robert who played an amazing part and was extremely creative in her performance.
