Masterpiece Theatre is a drama anthology television series, which premiered on PBS on January 10, 1971, making it America's longest-running primetime drama series!
Now, it's getting revamped and in 2008 the show will be split into three different sections. "Masterpiece Classic", "Masterpiece Mystery!" and "Masterpice Contemporary".
The X Files star Gillian Anderson will be one of the many stars to host the show!
Gillian Anderson is well known to Masterpiece Theatre fans for her performance as Lady Dedlock in Bleak House. She will make her debut as the host of Masterpiece Classic on The Complete Jane Austen.
Anderson will present the ten programs in the first Masterpiece Classic season, including adaptations of all six of Austen's novels plus a new biopic; Cranford, a three-part miniseries starring Judi Dench; My Boy Jack, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Kim Cattrall; and a new adaptation of A Room with a View by Andrew Davies.
