Drew Barrymore has been appointed the new Ambassador for the World Food Program which is a United Nations affiliate. Drew recently made a visit to Kenya where she visited schools whose school meals were funded by the World Food Program and according to her there is nothing ‘that is more important than working to see that no schoolchild in this world goes hungry,’.
To those of you who aren’t aware the WFP was founded in 1962 and feeds around 90 million people each year and has had a huge number of successes in preventing starvation. Drew joins another ambassador and world marathon champion Paul Tergat who was actually born in Kenya and benefited from the World Food Program School Meal campaign. Drew is also trying to get a legislation that will increase spending on school meals from $100 million to $300 million passed by Congress.
