How did Ellen DeGeneres do at The Oscars?

ellen hosting the oscars

Ellen is a funny gal ... but how did she do last night at The Oscars?
It was Ellen's first time hosting the Academy Awards ... she had lots of jokes up her sleeve ... but were they funny enough ... does she get 10 out of 10?
She wasn't sharp ... but her warm & low key jokes were what relaxed the audiences & made them at ease.
One of the funniest things she said was: "hosting the Oscars has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. Let that be a lesson to you kids out there - aim lower."
Then there was that ironic parallel between Jennifer Hudson, a losing contestant from American Idol & former US Vice President Al Gore, who lost an election for president despite winning the popular vote.

She said: "There's no rhyme or reason to who's going to win; Jennifer Hudson was on American Idol, America didn't vote for her, and she's here with an Oscar nomination. That's amazing. And then, Al Gore is here, America did vote for him, and then ... ... very complicated."
That was really funny!
It was also funny when she forced Steven Spielberg to take her picture with Clint Eastwood for her MySpace page!!! Ha Ha Ha!
What did you think of Ellen's performance?

    Nice commentaries, H.A.R.!
Ellen did well for the most part. There weren't any major lows all evening long, which was quite commendable; however, it is glaringly obvious that Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg are both very tough acts to follow.

The two jokes you mentioned (aim lower and the Al Gore one) were hilarious. She's had a few other great quips....she always does. What I liked about her is that she was totally at ease with the entire situation. What I didn't like is that it felt like the Ellen show and not the Academy Awards. I hope Billy Crystal agrees to come back for the 80th Academy Awards.

One of the worst Oscar performances ever. But then again, I have never found Ellen funny at all. Every joke she tells gives me the same two thought. "Mmmmmm....ok...that's pretty obvious...next" or "Mmmmm....ok...that wasn't funny...next"

Those two thoughts constantly in your head for 4 hours is torture.

Ellen was cool. She really did something nobody has done yet when hosting the Oscars...she went in the audience and really got some precious interaction with classic fantastic stars! Like Scorcese and Eastwood! It really brought the show alive. I thought WOW why hasn't anyone done that before? Why hasn't anyone interviewed any of the amazing people?
Well the journalists on the red carpet do, but they are usually stiff and it was good to see peers talking to each other!
    Anyway it was GREAT!

I thought Ellen was great! She was charming, funny, and sweet all at the same time....like she usually is. I wanted more Elen and less Oscars! I don't know if that was the goal, but I think many felt the same way....including Regis, whom I also adore. Way to go Ellen, you delivered! I have never watched the entire Oscars until Sunday and it was because I wanted to see what Ellen would do or say.
    Great Job!
