The spaceship being sold may win the high bidder half of a million dollar grand prize and a place in aerospace and literary history. A rocket being built to compete in an aerospace competition has been name Lauryad, after the spaceship from American novelist Vanna Bonta's quantum fiction FLIGHT novel!
The rocket team is competing for a grand prize of one million dollars in the NASA Lunar Lander Challenge this October (07) against a few rocketeers contenders, including video game genius John Carmack (Doom and Quake).
The team’s Chief Engineer also worked on SpaceshipOne, and said he was inspired by Bonta's space-adventure novel, and also Bonta's aviation tribute video "What Goes Up." There's an inside auction going on for the next few days, a high bidder on eBay will take home the Lauryad spaceship itself, and also half of any prize money it wins.
Vanna blogged on myspace about being told the lander was named after Lauryad, the spaceship of her fictional super heroine, Aira Flight. Vanna described, “I was really gobsmacked. It's very moving ... I'm deeply humbled to think I've in any way been inspiring, especially toward a goal I respect so immensely."
Vanna also wrote, "The really exciting focus here is not this detail, though -- it's the event and others like it that encourage, support and celebrate the enterprising innovation of pioneers working to give humanity wings."
Bonta's Flight fans everywhere are sure to be cheering the physical incarnation of the fictional Lauryad to soar to victory, but it's not just fiction lovers, businesspersons are bidding and waiting in the wings to own a piece of aerospace and literary history. The Lunar Lander competition will be held in the New Mexico desert this fall. Should be exciting. Who's going to win? We're rooting for the Lauryad to take our dreams to the moon!!

I am very happy to see the moon landing operation is moving to high gear, and her dreams will be the leading steps. We need urgently colonize and mine He-3 on the moon which had been ignored for decades.
