On Monday 6th November Tony Christie releases his new album 'Simply In Love' - a collection of classic love songs. The album celebrates Christie's 40th wedding anniversary and the songs are dedicated to his wife Sue. The album comes 30 years after his last UK album and 40 years after his very first solo single.
The king of retro-cool released his first single ‘Life’s Too Good To Waste’ in 1966 but it was in 1971 Tony that he cracked the UK charts with the #2 single ‘I Did What I Did For Maria’, followed by ‘Is This The Way To Amarillo’ which reached #18, and ‘Avenues and Alleyways’, the theme tune to the TV series The Protectors.
In 2005 he experienced newfound success when the smash comedy series 'Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights' featured 'Is This the Way to Amarillo?'. The song’s release for the Comic Relief charity earned Christie his first UK No.1 single for 7 weeks running, and became the biggest selling single of the year. Earlier this year, to coincide with the 2006 World Cup, a new version of Amarillo was released "(Is This The Way To) The World Cup?" and reached #8 in the UK singles chart.
On ‘Simply In Love’ Burt Bacharach’s ‘This Guy’s In Love With You’ sits alongside The Beach Boys’ ‘God Only Knows' and one of Tony’s all-time favourites ‘Moon River’. He also pays homage to Sting's 'Every Breath You Take' and David Bowie's 'Life on Mars'.
