Indeed, the 2007 North American Auto Show was the biggest showcase of new automotive technologies so far this year. Concept upon concept vehicles were exhibited to the delight (and sometimes amusement) of the attendees. One of the best stand-outs among the new concept vehicles unveiled at the show was Ford’s all-new sedan concept with a rather unwieldy name, Interceptor. Based on the popular Mustang, the Interceptor is designed with performance, power and attitude in mind. It’s basically a lengthened Mustang with distinctive, bold and dramatic styling cues.
The Interceptor is powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 Cammer engine producing 400 horsepower and capable of running on E-85 fuel. The overall length of the concept is at 201.6 inches while the wheelbase is at 120.8 inches. It has 22-inch wheels and a solid rear axle. The Interceptor also offers a range of safety devices such as inflatable rear-belts, four-point safety seat belts. Other notable features include extra-illuminating high-intensity discharge headlamps and halogen strobe lights. The Ford Interceptor is seen as a precursor to a possible competitor to the successful Chrysler 300.
