indy in petra

Last Saturday, we went on an adventure with Indiana Jones to the Temple of Doom in India.
It wasn't fun having to sit at a banquette of beatles, worms, eyeball soup and chilled monkey brains! I assure you!
This Saturday MBC 2 will be taking us on another adventure with Dr. Indy.
This time it's The Last Crusade, when Indy goes on a quest to find his father who is looking for the Holy Grail!
Harrison Ford and Sean Connery team up and head to the amazing rose city Petra for some of the most amazing scenes of the Indiana Jones Trilogy.
At that time (1989) the movie's budget was a whopping $36 million and the crew traveled the world! In addition to shooting scenes in Jordan, they did Spain, London, West Germany, Venice, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah over the course of six months.

On many occasions we have opened our TV sets during Ramadan and seen a remake of ‘1001 Nights’ or ‘Alf Leyla Wa Leyla’ and as interesting as the romantic and slightly stereotypical plot is usually, we love it. But this year something fresh and brand new is being prepared and goes by the name of ‘1001 Days’! Sounds strange I know! But it is a cartoon which stars ‘Sharazad’ and ‘Shahrayar’ in a whole new way and instead of it being about ‘Shahrayar’s’ night time stories it will be about how his Kingdom is running by day.

indiana jones and the temple of doom

On the occasion of the release of the latest installment of Indiana Jones: The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull on May 22nd, MBC 2 has decided to air the original Indiana Jones trilogy.
Last Saturday, we saw Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, which is the first Indy movie released in 1981.
This Saturday, MBC 2 will air the second Indy movie; The Temple of Doom, which was released back in 1984.

In The Temple of Doom, Dr. Indiana Jones is back as he teams up with a night club singer and a 12 year old named Short Round. They end up in an Indian village, where the people believe evil spirits have taken their children away after a sacred stone was stolen. Indiana agrees to try and retrieve the stone for the villagers.

George Wassouf

In an exclusive show of Al Arrab on MBC yesterday, famous singer George Wassouf opened up his heart and spilled the beans to Nishan about so many things.
Wassouf, although weak and tired, has made a great effort to be there for the show and be there for his fans, who have been waiting for this candid interview for very long.
Nishan presented Wassouf with the usual Al Arrab rose, which in his turn, Wassouf dedicated to his mother.

During the show, Wassouf revealed that his name 'George' is an ancient Greek name meaning the man who works in the field.
As for his nationality, he revealed that he has both a Syrian and a Lebanese nationality, but is originally from Syria.

All of you who are glued to LBC every night watching the Star Academy dailies will have seen the adverts for a new channel called Fox Movies. Well it’s good news all around for all those Hollywood lovers amongst you as ‘Fox Movies’ is a free channel that will air the latest Western movies on the Nilesat network as of the 1st of May!

When I first heard about this channel I was stunned at the similarity between it and MBC2! This channel is a joint effort between the Fox company and Rotana and they have gone all out to outdo any competition.

Abu Essam

We see a lot of divas in Hollywood and one likes to think that they do not exist in the Arab world- but we are extremely mistaken. It appears that Syrian actor Abbas El Nouri who plays the popular character of Abu Essam in Bab El Hara drove the director Bassam El Mala to starting the third part of the series with his character’s funeral! Primarily a lot people were on Abbas El Nouri’s side especially after he told everyone he had no idea what was happening and that the director just decided without informing him. The truth came out, as it always does. It appears that Abbas demanded that he read the script and alter it as he pleased before he signed on for the third part of ‘Bab El Hara’.

Tonight we saw the premiere of the much awaited series, Jeeran.
Maybe some of you have already seen a few episodes on other LBC channels, but we are watching it on LBC Satellite channel on Nilesat!
So, the first episode starts like this:
Four guys live in an apartment together and are cooking together!
Ahmad, Fadi, Khalifeh and Ali drowning in cooking, washing the laundry and other daily chores!
Fadi goes out with Tina … but that wasn’t an easy task! She’s serious, he’s not … she’s a hard working girl, he’s not … they’re total opposites … but with a new and devious tactic, he did manage to get her to go out with him!
The we meet Marwa … heading towards the fridge! Obviously in another apartment. Suddenly a girl shouts from the inside … Sally!
Those two girls are looking for another room mate to share the rent!
Shaima is the third girl in the apartment with them but she’s never there and they have to answer all her phones!
So, until now .. I don’t find that the series is fun and attracting! Sorry! It still lacks something!

Kathem and Mayada

With each episode of Al Arrab we receive a mix of interesting information, inspiration and insight into the minds and souls of some of the biggest artists of all generations. And this week the artists were two people whose music defied the prospect of time and is listened to by all generation: Mayada El Henawi and Kathem El Saher. The episode began ,as usual, with the ‘Hits of a Lifetime’ which were ‘Ana Bashaka’ by Mayada and ‘Zedeeny Eshkan’ by Kathem. Each artist has several ‘titles’ that his fans give him or her and Nichan was intrigued as to which title each of his guests preferred. Mayada’s answer was simply that she agrees with whatever her fans feel, as for Kathem’s answer it showed how educated and professional he was.
