What About the Ramadan Spirit
I don’t get it. All older people and senior citizens go on and on about how much “nicer” Ramadan was during their time…
What is it about the older days that make them so special?
As far as I can remember, Ramadan actually was nicer 15 years ago. Every Ramadan as the years go by (and I get older) I tend to feel that something is missing. I can’t put my finger on it nor can I make a list…but indeed, it’s not the same. I don’t know whether it’s me or everyone else that’s different.
Most people my parents age would say that Ramadan is less “family oriented as it used to be” and it seems to be the time where Arabic TV series and game shows dominate.
Brother-in-law of New Saddam Judge Slain
Yes, even more killed!
The brother-in-law of the new judge presiding over Saddam Hussein's genocide trial was gunned down and his nephew was wounded in a shooting Friday in Baghdad. This doesn't seem to stop. A whole trilogy can be made out of this trial alone.
Kadhim Abdul-Hussein was shot dead, and his son, Karrar, was wounded in a Baghdad neighborhood, police said.
Ramadan Beggars

We all see beggars on the streets, on subway corners, and especially traffic lights. But Ramadan sees a sharp rise in beggars and their activities.
Of course, these people would like to exploit this holy month as much as possible and play on the high level of religious emotions of people during this special time.
But hey, don’t get me wrong, not all beggars are bad guys. On the contrary, there are a lot of misfortunate people out there who need all the support and help they can get. It’s just such a shame that I can’t distinguish anymore between who deserves my change and who doesn’t. I feel so guilty for not helping an old lady in the street, but at the same time, it’s not my responsibility to save every single beggar, homeless and drifter out there. So let me see that Ramadan spirit of yours and give me suggestions on how to help the poor and the needy.
Oh, and if anyone can give me some suggestion on how to stop feeling guilty about the ones we don’t help.
Mars Says Cheese!

NASA's Opportunity Mars rover returned its first photos of Victoria Crater at Meridiani Planum. The robot has started to relay exciting glimpses of the large impact crater after a lengthy day-by-day journey across the planet’s landscape that ended up being a 20-month journey to reach the destination.
Initial images show rugged walls with layers of exposed rock. The floor is shown to be blanketed with dunes, as researchers already knew. The far wall is about a half-mile away.
Carter’s Criticism

Lots of people have criticized the American President over his war on Iraq but non to this point have been on such a high level like former President Jimmy Carter. He said that the Bush administration made a "terrible mistake" by invading Iraq and diverting troops from Afghanistan. The former president also said major policy changes are needed because the Iraq war has divided the nation "almost as much as Vietnam resulted in division. That's a setback."
Suicide Attempt, Melissa & Offer Refusal
• Egyptian actress Eman Ayoub attempted suicide recently during the shooting of the new TV series ‘Nassr Alsamaa’! The reason why Eman tried to kill herself is that the series won’t be aired on TV during the month of Ramadan!!
• The first Album of Lebanese singer Melissa has been released, the album is called ‘Bedi Menak’. I didn’t type the name wrong, Melissa & not Elissa … she has the title of Miss Middle East 2004 and she is now a singer … Typical!
• Egyptian actress Layla Alawi visited Lebanon recently to give tribute to the innocent people who were killed in the second massacre of Qana.
• Hanan Turk refused recently an offer to present a TV show that talks about religious issues. ‘I can’t do this job, and I never thought of it because this is not my job. I’m still learning…’ Hanan Said.

Ramadan Kareem or Ramadan Cream?

What are some of the special Ramdanian sweets that you like?
They differ from each country to country.
Baklawa must be the champion of Arabic sweets but we need to know what more types exist. Guys and girls from all over visit Waleg so we will grab this chance for you to tell us what your favorite is!
Mamool for example, Zalabya, and the Ramadan favorite: Qatayef.
For those of you living abroad, is it easy to get Arabic sweets where you live? When I was living in the UK, I found a small Iraqi shop that made the best Zalabya in the universe! It was even 10 times better than any I’d had in Iraq (apart from my mum’s of course)
The only problem is that by the time I’d done “devouring” my iftar, I don’t have much space left for sweets anyway!!!
German Opera Cancelled

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned against bowing to fears of Islamic violence after a Berlin opera house canceled performances of a Mozart work because of concerns some scenes could enrage Muslims.
Merkel's comments, which echoed those of other senior German politicians, fueled a row over the cancellation of Mozart's "Idomeneo" which is overshadowing a government-sponsored conference on Wednesday to promote dialogue with the country's 3.2 million Muslims.
Blair’s Despair

Well, it’s been 13 years since British Prime Minister Tony Blair took office and headed the Labor Party which ruled Britain….what a lot of fun it’s been.
The PM made his 13th and final conference address and he received an overjoyed and emotional welcome from delegates in the hall.
"it's hard to let go. But it is also right to let go." He said.
Yes Mr. Blair, it’s very right to let go…give someone else a chance!!!

Should People be Allowed to Eat During Ramadan?
From an Islamic point of view, eating in public during the fasting time is forbidden. However, times have changed and people have started to question this rule. In many Islamic countries, the government enforces this. So if you’re chewing gum in the street in Saudi-Arabia, you could get thrown in jail till the end of the month.
The Gap Between the Rich & Poor
Brazil is top of the list in football according to the Fifa World Ranking. But they’re also top of another list…the Highest Murder Rate in the world!
More than 150 Brazilians were murdered each day on average last year which makes Brazil similar to a war zone. On total 55 thousand were murdered last year, that’s even more than all the people killed in Iraq!
So what’s the deal?
The problem is the high division between the rich and the poor in addition to an abundant amount of guns which are easy to come by.
