Meet Syrian Actor Samer Ismail!
Have you heard of an actor called Samer Ismail?
Well, you might not have heard of him, but you sure know him as Omar in the epic TV drama "Omar"!
Samer Ismail is a new Syrian actor and his role as the great Islamic Calif Omar is his first major role.
Samer auditioned for the series but was not aware that he was going to be chosen as Omar himself!
When Director Hatem Ali finally opened up to Samer and revealed to him that he was going to play Omar, Samer was shocked! He became unable to sleep and became aware that this could be the most important role of his life!
In order to get ready for the role, in addition to memorizing his lines, Samer started reading and researching the character of Omar. He went on a quest to dive into the personality of the great Islamic Calif.
Samer says that playing the role of Omar for over a year, has effected his personal life positively! He became careful of his behavior and how he deals with people around him. It made his a better person.
Samer also thanked actor Ghassan Massoud for helping his through the series and giving him tips and pointers on how to make his performance better and more truthful.
As for the changing of Samer's voice, Hatem Ali revealed the reason behind that decision.
Samer's voice is a young one and it wouldn't be appropriate to change it suddenly as Omar grows in age and becomes and old man.
So, they decided to use the voice of an older actor, Jordanian actor Asaad Khalifeh.

I watched the whole episode of Omar, and I think, despite all the controversy, the series was awesome and very educating. But I'm curious about the casting. I've searched the net about the actors involved in the series, but found very little information about them, and even if there is, it's all in Arabic. Can you please feature them, such as Mahmoud Nasr, Ghanem Alzerla and the actor who depicted Abdullah Ibn Omar? Thanks in advance.
