Carla Bruni and Nicholas Sarkozy

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the wife of French president Nicholas Sarkozy, has given birth to a baby girl! According to reports, the French first Lady gave birth yesterday, October 19, at a private clinic called La Muette in the French capital. The baby came out at around 8 p.m. local time.

Unfortunately, President Sarkozy missed the birth of their baby girl because he was away in Frankfurt for the eurozone crisis talks with Angela Merkel and EU officials. He did visit her when she was admitted earlier that day and came around later in the evening after finishing the eurozone crisis talks.

This is the first baby for the 56-year-old French President and his 43-year-old wife. Also, theirs is the first baby born to a sitting President in France! Although it’s not the first baby for each of them; Mrs. Sarkozy has a son from a previous relationship and President Sarkozy has three sons from his two previous marriages.

But as of this time the new parents have not given any official statement regarding the birth except for a message posted on Carla's website. It looks like the First Lady is keeping her word when she said she’s not going expose the baby to the prying eyes of the public.
Here is the message she wrote on her website which reveal the name of their baby: "I am deeply touched by the many messages of congratulations that I have received since the birth of our daughter Giulia."

Anyhow, congratulations to the President and First Lady Sarkozy!
