Royal wedding bells will soon be ringing! Prince William of UK is engaged to long-time girlfriend, Catherine “Kate” Middleton. Yes, this must be a season for engagements, don’t you agree?
The announcement came yesterday via Clarence House. The couple got engaged in Kenya last month during a private holiday after the prince asked for Kate’s hand from her dad. This is a most-awaited announcement, in fact, it is said to be eight years in the making. Kate and Will have had an on-again, off-again relationship since it started during their college years. Kate was even dubbed as “Waity Katy” because she was said to be hanging on for a proposal.
Prince William is the second in line to the throne so someday, Kate, a commoner, will be queen. This is unheard of in the royal families but it seems that Will is on the path to changing that.
It was also announced that the wedding will take place in 2011, either spring or summer; although other details have not yet been given out such as the place, the bride’s dress, etc.
David Cameron, the Prime Minister of England, is delighted by the news. He said it is a great moment for national celebration but also it must be remembered to give the happy couple some space.
Prince William is said to be “extremely excited” and “thrilled” by this new event in his life. This will be the biggest royal event after his parents’ wedding in 1981.
Best wishes to both of you, Will and Kate!
