Helmy vs. Maki?

Every summer there is the awaited smack down between all the summer movies- of which there are always many. This year the two big movies and actors everyone's watching are from the 'new' generation: Ahmed Helmy and Ahmed Maki! And it seems experience did not trump this year and Ahmed Maky's movie has done insanely well in the box office grossing a total of more than 10million E.P (over $1.75 million) in just 2 weeks! 'La Taraga, La Tastaslam' stars Makya and the likes of Donia Sameer Ghanim and Ezat Abou Ouf and its gripping and hilarious story has grabbed the attention of the masses.
Helmy's movie 'Asal Eswed' hasn't done so bad though and is firmly holding onto 2nd place grossing nearly 22million E.P (almost $3.8 million) in 7 weeks. Who would have thought that the guy who started off as just 'the guy with the 'fro' would end up doing better than one of the biggest stars of his generation? Funnily enough as well it seems Helmy is doing better than his wife Mona Zaky who -and this is just my opinion- is more talented than he is!

I liked Helmy's movie so much, it is full of comedy, acting and reality. In my opinion Mekki's movie is shallow.
I second u Shaza, Donia was helarious in the Moroccan girl while emy's role in assal eswed did not give her a chance to show her talent. Also, don't forget their mother dalal abdel aziz who acted meki's mother in the movie.
In my opinion the movie benteen men masr deserves to be watched, it is a very good movie.

Both movies were hilarious. Assal eswed was able to unfold a new idea, it discussed a lot of facts in a comic way which represents the egyptian persona and how they choose to deal with situations. However, a lot of the parts that were supposed to be funny were repeated so many times which somehow made the audience lose focus, in addition to that a lot of the stuff stated as "facts" were overrated, he also offered problems without offering solutions. It felt like they spent the whole movie trying to break something that the egyptians believe in (that egypt has a certain thing that makes you love it), but then **spoiler alert** he just gives in to it.
La tarago3 wala esteslam, Covered a story that has been done tons of time, however they do admit it in the first scene in the movie and honestly that was the best version of the story. You wouldn't stop laughing throughout the movie; especially if you're good with the egyptian dialect as you'll be able to understand all the funny lines.
Donia and Emmy Samir Ghanem are really talented; they really get into their characters which just leaves you wanting more. There ability to portray different social levels and accents is absolutely brilliant. Donia's morrocan accent is hilarious and Emmy's impersonation of a low-class english teacher who can't pronounce one good english word, just leaves you wondering if talent is really heredatiry.
I honestly couldn't pick a favourite between Ahmed Mekky and Ahmed Helmy. I think i'll just have to go to every movie they act.
Btw I totally agree with you, i've always thought Mona Zaki was much more talented than Ahmed helmy. I assure you that i've been proven wrong; not only is Ahmed helmy doing great roles, he is also gaining loads of respect with his awesome charisma. While i'm sad to say that, in my opinion, Mona Zaki is just picking roles that don't suit her, I don't know if fans will stick by her for long, specialy that bad movies has been going on for long (ever since Abou-Ali with Kareem AbdelAziz and maybe 3An el 3esh2 wel hawa with el sakka)

** i mean that those were her last good movies :)

I have seen and enjoyed both movies. Helmy is a great actor and i liked the idea of the movie but my only point against the movie is that ahmed can hardly pronounce any english work correctly, u feel that he is trying hard to...Emy was hillarious in her small role, iam sure she has great potentials to show.
Mekky is my star i really like the way he thinks and tries to be different.. from the 1st scene in the movie they state that the movie idea is very old and it was even done in Katkout movie... i loved loved loved the translator part it was hillarious...Donia was really good and she became very sexy and pretty..

Honestly , I liked Helmy's movie more because it is new while Mekky's movie plot was done before trillions of times. If u want to watch a good movie and laugh go for Hemly's movie if u want just to burst out laughing without new story go for Mekky.
Actually what u didnt notice in both films are the new raising stars Donia and Emy Samer Ghanem . Seriously i bet their father is so proud of them as both his daughters are in the top 2 movies. Donia is perfect she acted the moroccon girl as if she really is . Also , Emy is a very good actor as well. Good luck to all of them.
