Miss World 2009 pageant was held in South Africa one week ago.
A record was set, as 112 beautiful contestants from all over the world competed for the title and crown, this being the biggest turnout in the pageant's history!
The one young lady to shatter the dreams of all others was Miss Gibraltar, Kaiane Aldorino.
Miss Gibraltar won the title and crown as runners up Miss Mexico and Miss South Africa tagged behind!

To answer your question, Smiley. Gibraltar is a small British overseas territory, situated at the southernmost tip of Europe on the Mediterranean.
For once, it seems that the pageant's judges have been able to see past the more polished (and frankly plasticky contestants) who represent the bigger countries. Kaiane's natural beauty and humility shone through and our tiny nation is extremely proud of her achievement.

Gibraltar is on the South East of Spain and it's name is actually Arabic: Gibal Tarek, I'm sure you've heard of the Arabic name.

What a wonderful change from the usual saccharine contestants. Gibraltar like many other places in the Iberian penisula has an arabic name but has been Christian since the reconquest in the 14th century. I isited there last year, it is a wealthy city state with a huge bunkering business, a financial industry, tourism and en an infantry regiment which trains the army in Gambia and has seen action in Iraq and Afghanistan. Miss World highlights the attributes of this small but wonderful nation.
