Nancy Ajram Salutes Both Egypt & Algeria

nancy ajram

Nancy Ajram was the target of many media attacks in the past few days for cheering for the Egyptian football team before the heated match between them and Algeria on Saturday.
In these attacks, the Algerian media went as far as calling Nancy a 'Scorpion'!
Nancy expressed her support for the Egyptian team and wished them luck and that wasn't to the liking of her Algerian fans who thought she should have stayed neutral and not showed such enthusiasm in wishing that the Egyptian team wins!

Now, after all that's been happening after the match, Nancy released a statement to MBC revealing that she does have a special relation with Egypt and because it's football, she was cheering for one of the teams. It happened to be the Egyptian team because she feels very close to Egypt and loved the Egyptian people.
She also revealed that such an attitude doesn't mean that she has anything against Algeria and the Algerian football team!
She saluted the Algerian team and wished them the best.

What do you think?
Should Nancy have kept her preferences to herself because she's a star? Or does she have the right to express her feelings like any other football fan?

She has every right to support the team she likes, she is no different to other fans. just coz she's a star and famous doen't mean she's not allowed to express her feelings.
They are just pathetic, and always looking for an excuse to complain about a famous celeb.

Typical Algerian reaction. They always have to make themselves feel like the victim and cry to the world "poor us." Everyone has an opinion. Who cares if it's her or if it's some random kid in China! GROW UP!

just because she's a singer doesn't mean she can't have an opinion. she has the right to support whatever sports team she likes, that's her business. people need to grow up, and stop complaining about things that have no real importance.

she should have been neutral...if a match was between her country and an other country,it's ok, she is free to express her opinion and her preference obviously for her country but this match is opposing two arab countries... by expressing her preference, she offended the other country i.e algeria...it's like " oh i support egypt because they are middle eastern, you are not "...she excludes them from her encouragement but apparently she does not refuse to have fans , doing shows in their country and make money ...she solely acts out of interest...too bad...

i understand that algerian people could be offended...they must have the feeling that "they are not arabs" we know why many of them are rejecting the arab culture and nancy attitude does not help...

i don't know exactly her roots , all i know about her, she is really talented and has fans all around the arab world...her attitude is disrespectful and offensive...she isn't only a middle eastern star she is an arab star as well...

she really should have used her fame in a more intelligent way acting for the unity of the Arab world and not injuring people...it's an unforgivable attitude of immaturity...

    silence is golden...

i know football is a big deal, and thats fine and dandy but all the attacks on people for what they say is so pathetic...

This is so pathetic. That's like if we in America cried "but we're English speakers too" because Leona Lewis in England said she'd rather see Australia beat us. Not that it has anything to do with language, because Algeria is pretty much OWNED by France, whether they admit it or not. They may as well give up their Arab title or whatever.

This singer has as much right to cheer whatever team she wants. Or do Algerians not like that? Do you prefer to silence an opinion if it's not your own?

Either way, GO EGYPT from the USA!

Oh my GOD i cannot believe what is going on with people posting these comments
    For God's sake it's a FOOTBALL GAME.
We are all Arabs and we should be celebrating this amicably!!!!!!!
Algerians keeping the Egyptians in Algeria, not letting them go, and all of this crap!
It's so immature that the Algerians and Egyptians are so upset with each other! I am Egyptian but live in England, where football is so popular, and there isn't this stupid mentality that the Arabs seem to have about football! Of course people support their team, but there are no derogatory comments to the other teams...
I think this is so unworthy of people's time. The match is over, and Algeria won, and should be proud without criticising the Egyptian team, as it should be if it was the other way around! There is nothing wrong with watching football and supporting your team, even though it's not my cup of tea, but COME ON! Have some maturity people: It's not worth it to be so angry at each other :/ especially because we are all Arabs :/

am algerian, and i was a fan of nancy ajram i liked her songs , however when she became so insulting to the algerians , calling them names , it had driven me away ,as an algerian i felt offended, so my love for you nancy down the drain, especially haifa wahbe, these stars are not intelegent at all, i mean why would you want to make haters for yourself? and egyptians are the ones who started the war by hitting footballers with stones , now that showed how low and pathetic they are.. even though our heroo footballers were injured they carried on playing and with allah we won =)

She must be a looser, thats why she is supporting Egypt, usually it takes two to tango. i guess she is after publicity. funny enough i just googled her and saw that she was singing with the king of RAI music who is famous worldwide from Algeria to America, europe and the whole arab world and Asia especially India Mr CHEB KHALED, i guess she wanted some of his support to contribute to her fame, however i donn't thing she will make it, beside it's not my kind of music. anyway good luck to her.

This was not a 'general Algerian reaction', it was just a reaction of the media and press, which for the most part react the same way all around the world.

There is no such thing as an "Algerian Reaction", why be so hateful? I'm Algerian and I've been to Algeria. Nancy Ajram's music videos play on Algerian television all the time and no one complains about that at all. I like her songs and she seems really talented. Most people probably don't even know which team she cheered for.

We don't make ourselves the victim either. It's funny how before the football match no Arab ever had a problem with Algeria. It's only until after they won did everyone start complaining.
