What's the deal with young actresses these days? Some of them are proving to be so desperate that they're ready to take on any role in any movie to get back on the scene, even if it'll cost them their already questionable reputation!!!
Excuse me, but that's exactly how I feel about Ruby & Maria specifically!
Both Ruby and Maria are returning to the scene with roles in movies that discuss sexual problems such as sexual repression.
Ruby has decided to take this step after going into hiding for some time after her last movie 'Al Waad' which received lots of negative feedback especially for containing steamy bedroom scenes. What a smart move from Ruby!
This new movie is entitled 'Al Shawq' and is about a bunch of young people living in Alexandria and their everyday life and everyday problems such as unemployment and sexual repression.
As for Maria, she's been away from the music scene for some time as well and decides to make a memorable comeback with the movie 'Ahasees' or Feelings.
The movie is about Nour, a dancer/singer/something in a cabaret, who faces many pressures, especially sexual pressure, due to the nature of her job.
The movie also sheds light on the sexual problems of married couples.
Can't those two find decent roles to take on? Or have they not received any other offers?! In my point of view, if they want to gain back their fame, they should work hard on finding respectable roles to play, give 100% of their effort and take it step by step. The easy and fast way to fame will only lead to fast dissolving fame!
What's the deal with these movies? Is a storyline revolving around sex the only one that attracts young audiences these days? Are there no other problems that our society suffers from?!
In the past couple of years movies like 'Kubulat Masrouka' -Stolen Kisses- and 'Al Waad' -The Promise- are making their way just like important and respectable movies ... which is a shame!
Call me old fashioned or conservative, but that's how I feel and if more people start feeling the same way, such crappy movies won't make their way to the silver screen any more!

It's a simple explanation really. They are obviously not being offered good roles. These are the only ones that come their way considering they have minimal acting experience. Trust me, if they were given some really good roles people would definately complain and wonder why weren't those roles given to more resprectable actresses. I personally don't see a problem with films dealing with sexuality as long as it's done right and not in a gratuitous way such as showing women half dressed just for the sake of attracting audiences. These roles that Maria and Ruby have taken are definately objectafiable to women and it's a shame that they don't see that. It's obvious they don't really take acting seriously as an art anyway. Otherwise they would never take these roles. If they were serious actors they would take some classes and perhaps try to audition for plays and then films. The stage is way harder than film and once they conquer the stage, films are a walk in the park.

But i actually think they havn't been offered better roles because of thier previous dirty roles. They're not taking anything seriously at all. Even thier songs and video clips are overrated.
Briggette, i agree with every word you said, they cant take good roles any more, it just wouldn't suit them, alot of people take thier acting offensively, and they have lost alot of fans.

I dont agree with you, I think you're being prejudiced. first of all you havent even seen those movies that you've dedicated an article to. secondly, they seem to discuss real problems that people face and have faced since forever so why not make movies about them to inspire intelligent discussion and debate? and I think that ruby and maria have the potential to be great in their roles because they won't be so unbelievable as characters and Im sure youll agree with me :)

With all fairness, Ruby has been good in her film Al Waad. She has a commanding presence and a little honing, she would be line up with the great actresses in the Middle East. I respect your opinion but I honestly believe we should judge her according to her performance not on her character.
