Don Hewitt Maker of 60 Minutes Dies

Don Hewitt

A pioneer in the television news has said his final goodbye. Don Hewitt died on Wednesday after his battle with pancreatic cancer. He died at the age of 86. Mr. Hewitt worked for more than half a century in the news. This man is the one behind the program 60 Minutes, which was first aired on September 24, 1968. He conceptualized this TV newsmagazine to be a straightforward and simple way of presenting a story that’s happening in the community. It was a stroke of a genius because until now it is still one of the most successful and most watched programs on television.

It was back in the 1940s that don Hewitt got exposed in the world of news. His big break was when he got to work for CBS News in 1948 where he came up with the 60 Minutes news broadcast. He tackled many kinds of issues in the show, some of them were praised while others were criticized. During his time in the show, his 60 Minutes was recognized and won 73 Emmy Awards, 13 duPont/Columbia University Awards, and 9 Peabody Awards.

There is no doubt that Don Hewitt has contributed a lot to the industry. All that he has done will continue even though he is no longer around.

He will surely be missed.

Yes he came up with a good show and its content was revolutionary in its aggressive journalistic style, when it first aired in 1968. Overall its still one of the best tv newsmagazines.
