Take a look at this picture… can you see anything amiss? At first glance, what you’ll see here is one happy family, with mother duck waddling gracefully and her three ducklings following her footsteps devotedly. But wait! What’s that under mama duck’s foot? I can see a beak and a head under her foot. Oh no! It looks like one of the baby ducklings is being squashed right under there! Poor little duckling; it really looks dead lying flat on the ground like that.

Good thing I’m mistaken! After realizing that she’s stepping on one of her own flesh and blood, mama duck quickly stepped away. After being relieved of the weight on its back, the duckling quickly sprang to back to life, fluffing its feathers as it went with its siblings.

It’s amazing how the duckling seemed alright after such an ordeal. There was no indication at all that it had broken some vital parts.

An onlooker couldn’t believe his eyes as well. Just like me, the first impression of this onlooker is that the duckling was killed when it suffered such weight.

This amazing incident happened in the River Avon in Christchurch, Dorset.
