
This is a quick update about the situation of the H1N1 virus, better knwon as Swine Flu.
It has been announced that the Swine Flu situation in the world has officially met the criteria of a worldwide pandemic!
As of today, nearly 30,000 confirmed cases have been reported in 74 countries.
The World Health Organization has raise the level of influenza pandemic alert from phase 5 to phase 6 today.
Yet, the WHO continues to recommend no restrictions on travel and no border closures.
If you're wondering what to do to protect yourself from Swine Flu, here's what the WHO recommend:
Avoid close contact with people who show influenza-like symptoms and try to maintain a distance of about 1 meter if possible.
Take the following measures:
- avoid touching your mouth and nose
- clean hands thoroughly with soap and water, or cleanse them with an alcohol-based hand rub on a regular basis
- avoid close contact with people who might be ill
- reduce the time spent in crowded places if possible
- improve airflow in your living space by opening windows;
- practice good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food, and keeping physically active.
