I always associated celebrity worship culture with the West, I thought our own culture in the Middle East was more level headed, more adverse to such fantasies. However lately as family and community values are becoming a version of the West - still to a much lesser extent- and we see them slowly being destroyed by the phenomenon of individualism and some unethical parts of the omnipresent Arab Media. Many teenagers are driven by boredom or a search for identity to idolize a figure on the screen.
I thought of this issue as I keep going through the Internet and see the way our young people are becoming obsessed by celebs such as Amr Diab, Elissa and the likes. Most recently many would have read some of the Haifa articles on WALEG and would have witnessed the way they end up being a slanging match. I do understand that many like Haifa and enjoy her songs, but some decided to appoint themselves her defense attorney on the blog and would go ballistic whenever someone criticized her.
Haifa is an entertainer like many of our current celebrities who are out for fame and money; They are public figures who will be subjected to critiques and scrutiny. While some do go overboard in their criticism, they are allowed their opinion. Unfortunately some of Haifa's fans decide to turn it into a personal attack and even go to the extent of insulting people's family and friends- people they have never met- secure in the fact that they are safe behind their keyboard and will not be held responsible for their action.
Haifa is Haifa, some people will like her, some will not, others will be disgusted by the fact that she opened the door to many talentless artists not so different from herself to invade our TVs, some will admire her business skills etc. People express their opinion because that is what the commentary box is for; If you do not like the comment, you have every right to debate it but we do not have to go all personal; See while it is admirable to look up to people who invent, improve our existence through science and research or talented composers and many others whom we benefit from their hard work, idolizing someone like Haifa to the point of obsession and absolute malice towards others who do not share your own worship is well sorry to say makes you a fanatic.

People tend to become fanatics when they want to fill their empty lives with something false & meaningless. It comes across more like an obsessive disorder.
Vana does not need to learn to be objective. People in the Middle East have suffered a great deal from objective views that often favour Israel. And here we are discussing Entertainment; entertainment never required or requires the objectivity incorporated into Political articles.

You're clearly obsessed just as much with Haifa as her other fans or else you wouldn't have spent so much time writing about her. Also, Waleg writes way too much about Haifa so what do you expect? Her haters will come and bash her and of course her fans will defend her, it's natural. If a fan knows that one of those people bashing her is making a false comment they will correct them and tell them what they know is true. A fan knows a lot more than a hater and when someone judges another person without really getting to know them is very unnecessary. Haifa is the queen of press and media, so many people will find her as an icon/role model. As to those fans who are extremely obsessed with her and worship her is wrong and they definitely need some help and that goes out to any fan of any celebrity. It's okay to look up to these celebs as role models but don't worship them and have your facebook page and bedroom full of their pictures.
btw pictures of Haifa and her fiance who she is marrying april 24 or 25 came out, someone should post them

This was once discussed on LBC's talk show Ahmar Bel Khat Al-Areed and there was this Lebanese guy who's an obsessed fan of George Wassof and one day his girlfriend was in his car and she heard him listening to one of Wassouf's songs and she asked him to turn the radio off so he stopped the car and ordered her to get out. He later broke up with her because he didn't want anybody to say a negative thing about his favorite artist!

My youtube channel also has Najwa Karam and Assi el Helani videos, it doesn't just worship Haifa in all positive ways but I do address negative things about her on my channel too. Mainly I make videos with dabke beats in it because I like the way she dances and I find her to be very intelligent and independent which is why she is an icon for so many females around the world. I was not directing this article at you or Haifa fans in general, because that would be silly as they exist in great numbers but I was talking about a certain group here that do persist in calling people names.
What drove me to write this article is not obsession but the fact that a Haifa fan told a girl who criticized Haifa badly that she was not "bent nas", who is this person to insult someone that personally because of Haifa? This comment is deleted now but it was unfortunate( there are many others as you must know given you are a regular on Waleg). See when someone insults others because of Haifa, it should be expected that their reaction to be the same and for them to insult Haifa even more in order to rile.
This a website for Arab celebrities visited by people from different countries, religions and views. You are bound to find a lot of kids that would not like Haifa, in fact would probably outweigh the number of those that do.
