Angela Merkel Earns a Barbie Version of Herself

Angela Merkel

Barbie is turning 50 years old this year. As part of the celebration, Barbie’s makers Mattel made an Angela Merkel Barbie doll. This doll is on display at the 60th Annual International Toy Fair in Nuremburg, Germany. As Germany’s first female head of Government, Merkel is one of the most influential women and is one of the great role models around the world today. Merkel was present at the fair’s opening on Wednesday. Upon seeing her replica she immediately approved.

The Angela Merkel Barbie is an epitome of cuteness. The striking similarities – signature strawberry-blond hair, elegant black trouser suit, and low-heeled shoes – are all there. However, if you look at the Barbie’s face and figure, they don’t exactly look like Merkel. According to Mattel spokesperson Stephanie Wegener the doll was just a look-alike in order to honor her. The company’s intention was not to make an exact copy of someone.

If you are a big Angela Merkel fan and would like to have a copy of her Barbie version, sorry to say you’ll be disappointed. This doll is not for sale. Mattel still has to decide what they are going to do with it after the fair is over.
