There are a lot of talented artists in Morocco and whilst some of them manage to make it in the Arab world (Example: Hana Al Idrisi, Sofia Al Marikh, Amal Al Anbari, Hasna, Raja Kasbani) , others remain popular merely on a local level which in many cases is a shame. However, Lebanese singer Ramy Ayach has just started up a company called ‘Global Music’ which will be based in Morocco and its main aim will be to discover and manage Moroccan talent!
Whilst speaking about ‘Gobal Music’, Ayach said he would do more than discover Moroccan singers, the company will promote them and try to expand their fan base to the entire Arab world. All kinds of barriers stand between Moroccan artists and regional fame and I think what Ramy wants to do is eliminate as many of these barriers as possible.
Let us not forget though that this is by no means a selfish act. When and if Ramy’s company signs the ‘next big thing’ in Morocco he too will be able to cash in on his/her success!
