A few month ago, there was a whirlwind of troubles surrounding the series Asmahan.
The family of the singing princess didn't find it appropriate for the series to air, for what reasons? They have their own, but I'm not sure why exactly!
None-the-less, it is airing now on Rotana Khalijia and art.
I have seen the first two episodes and found them to be interesting and intriguing!
To see how Asmahan was born on a cargo ship as Amal, to see how she and her mother and brothers slipped miraculously from between the fingers of the French to run away to Egypt is amazing.
She is still a little girl, but when the time comes and she appears through the face and voice of Sulaf Fawakherji, I'm betting she'll be amazing!
The story of the famous singer, who died in mysterious circumstances, is directed by famous Tunisian director Shawki Al Majri.

Well, I've made my choice : this Ramadan it's gonna be "Asmahan" !!
The story seems to be very interesting and the artistic touch of Shawki Al Majri is so intense. He's one of my favourite directors (of course N° 1 is Hatem Ali). Remember Shawki Al Majri's masterpiece "Al Arwah Al Mouhajira", starring Abbas Al Nouri, broadcasted a few years ago.
Soulaf Fawakhirji is marvellous as usual !! So I think the best is yet to come...
This series is the only series to be watched in Ramadan
However, I would have preferred if the role of Asmahan has been performed by other than Soulaf Fawakherji. Too many differences in their phiysics: Asmahan was short and thin, Soulaf is tall with extra pounds. And differences in characters: Asmahan had a strong mature character shown on her severe facial traits. Eventhough Asmahan passed away at age 26/27 but one can clearly see maturaity and strong character in her pictures and movies what Soulaf did not deliver in the series. Asmahan role needed to be performed by an actress with a "heavy mature" aura unlike Soulaf who looked very sweet in the series. I reckon she has been chosen for her natural coloured eyes and for the fact that she is Syrian.
Eventhough, Asmahan series is to be watched this year for its heavy professional historical citations.
So far this series is very interesting. Soulaf is doing a great job, however I agree that Soulaf is heavier than the real Asmahan. And the original actress for this series Syrian actress, Leelya Atrash (who is actually related to the Atrash family) resembles Asmahan more than Soulaf. But the director was changed and the new director didn't like Leelya. This mini-series is also airing on Dream and NewTVsat
Very nice series, Soulaf is doing a good job but I agree that she's very sweet for Ismahane!! Anyway, better than her on Ismahane? no one.. Did you know that Waad el Bahry is behind the songs on the series? do you remember her? she was in Super Star 2 and I knew that she'll do it.. She has a great great voice..
Thanks guys. I don't like Jouman Mourad not a shread of a bit, but I think she would have been better for Asmahan rol. She is Syrian, short, thin nd with natural coloured eyes ? (i don't know but they look natural) above all, she has the square face shape and thin lips like Asmahan, artistic make-up
would have done miracles with Joumana as Asmahan. she also have a kind of "dryness" in her character severe traits
so In my opinion she exactly fits the role.
some people argues that asmahan did not die in normal circumstances,however she was killed and the criminal was the very famous singer om kulthoom who decided to get rid of asmahan because she felt that asmahan was threatening her place in the singing world.actually asmahan had a wonderful voice and she owned the beauty that om kulthoom didn't have;so it sound acceptable that om kulthoom might be the secret hand behind asmahan's death at this young sge.

Ashahan did not die because Om Kuthom wanted to get rid of her. Your facts are incorrect. Asmahan was murdered in a car accident during WWII. That was because she was a British spy, leading to later conclusions for why she was murdered.In addition, the last movie Asmahan did, there was a funeral at the end. That was the actual funeral of Asmahan after her death.
