novel cover

A book about Prophet Mohammad and his wife Aisha was supposed to be hitting shelves today ... but it hasn't!
The novel entitled The Jewel of Medina, was going into publication by Random House, but everything was halted after they were advised the book "might be offensive" to some Muslims, and "could incite acts of violence".
Prof. Denise Spellberg from Texas University says: "the novel makes fun of Muslims and their history." She also classifies the novel as "ugly" and "stupid".
On the other hand, Sherry Jones, the author of the novel, says she wrote the book respectfully and her intent was for the book to be a bridge-builder.
So, Random House won't publish the novel, but Jones is free to take her book to other publishing companies.
What do you think?

H.A.R , what do you post articles such as this? It is elementarily obvious that you are trying to incite Muslims to talk smack about non-Muslims. What you are doing is keeping in line with the violent protests against non-muslims during the muhammad cartoon riots, which incited British Muslims to engage in a protest with placards that read, "Muslims are going to take over", "we will cut off the heads of those who make fun of our prophet". I'm not making this up I have pictures of this protest with these violent messages.

H.A.R why don't you talk about the anti-Christian flare-ups that are taking place in Egypt...how about when Islamic fundamentalists kidnapped the Egyptian Pope's wife and forced her to convert to Islam...how about we write this article and then we ask Waleg bloggers and contributers.."what do they think about that?" Or how about we talk about the highly detailed reports about Egyptian Christian girls being kidnapped from their families, then raped by Muslim fundamentalists and then forced to convert to Islam...How about we write an article about that....and then H.A.R..We ask Arab Christians "what do you think about that"

George, so why don't you talk about it? if something bothers you, you have the right to say your opinion and to inform others, that's what H.A.R is doing and that's what alot of other people are doing. so again, don't expect others to ignore what is happening because that's what you are doing right now, by not talking about the "anti-Christian flare-ups that are taking place in Egypt" and the many other issues that seem to bother you.

George you are dumb and have so muc hatred in you. It is obvoius how much hatred you have in you. Would it make you happy if the book was published? You would feel better wouldn't you, nutcase!

Arab christians and muslims are brothers and respect each other. If there are a few idiots like you, then they are minority. The majority live together in peace and that is a FACT!!!

Uffff, lets talk about Haifa Wehbe ;)

To the anonymous , akhbal, I said nothing about that book being published,....I was making light of the fact that H.A.R'S articles are chosen to incite hate against non-muslims, especially when he/she asks readers what they think about the person who wrote that book.

that was point, Ahbal

George,

The point is there is too much hatred against muslims in the society today that people are trying to find anything negative to say about Islam and because of the issues most muslims are facing today. As someone already metioned, if it really bothers you then speak up! Isn't that what this forum is for?

If we need to post every pitiful or vilont act regarding a Christian or a Muslim, Waleg would run out of space, however I think the issue with the Author is not on the same scale as the anti-Christian acts you are talking about.

To The Egyptian Christian gooorge:

As we speak, There is a foreign Army of Christians in the Middle east murdering Muslims. Western Christianity has played a more divisive role in the Middle East then any one entity in the history of the region.

Take your Orthosucks inferiority complex somewhere else.

Eastern Christians, except for the the Orthosucks cooooptis and the Lebananana moron-ites do not except the constant provocations towards our Arab brothers and sisters who share a different faith.

Some may be born Christians, some may be born Muslims, but we all die as Arabs, proud Arabs.

Palestinian,

In order to counter George's opinion, you have proved to be more ignorant and prejudiced. The only one that sucks and is a moron is YOU. The war in Iraq is not about RELIGION ya genious, and In Iraq that so-called "Army of Christians" is watching while Muslims are butchering each other. Instead of blaming Western influences (which I do not deny), go correct your prejudices first and stop playing into others' hands. It is a coward's way out of blaming everything on others. Anyway George is not Egyptian ya 3abqary zamanak.

George,

Will not defend H.A.R., the WALEG team can explain themselves better than I could. It is a very interesting subject and the article was not provocative in any way, shape or form. It would nice just once to discuss such a sensitive subject without people offending each other and coming out sounding "stupid" and "ugly" such as the SO-CALLED "Palestinian Christian son of Ram" whom I question his age and the fact that anyone can be anyone on this website.

I cannot judge the book until I read it. However if it does make fun of Muslims and their history, then yes it should not be published. A lot of people do jump on the subject of Aisha and her age to twist facts and make fun, so I think unless it is handled wisely it could come out as "ugly" and "stupid"

3la fekra...the only way we could stay in peace is if we all accept every religion...wana 3n nafsi b3mel kda bel harf el wa7ed...w yaret kol 7d tani y3mel kda...did you guys ever think that were ARABS ZAY B3D...did you try to ask yourself what caused the arab countries to start a problem with religions???mahna tool 3omrena 3ysheen muslimeen w mese7777 f nafs el beet w lo2metna wa7ed...w dayman kan bena 3esh w mal7 3la ra2y el masal...delwaty gayeen ne2ol asl ento w ento w ento...leh??? ana bad3i mn rabina in el omor f masr w kol dawla 3rabeya terga3 zay makan...w kol el 3rab yehato edehomo f eid b3d...badal la3b el 3yal da

Well apparently Sherry Jones has a blog, her articles are quite interesting. As one of people commented there, this gives the book more publicity and fame ( I wonder if that could be the aim)... The same with that 'Fitna' movie, a movie that was if it were not for all the furore a complete farce, watching it was one of the few minutes of my life that I wish I could take back.

Dear commentators:
I wrote this article to simply report about the scrapping of the book and the decision of Random House to cancel the publication! I only stated facts.
I have no problem what-so-ever with all the other religions on earth and could never try to spark a 'fitna' between Muslim and non-Muslims!
As for my question 'What do you think?' it refers to the whole issue of canceling the publication!
