Recently Amal Hijazi performed a concert at the Lions Club and the club then honored her as a gesture of thanks for her performance. Amal was obviously very pleased and said that she was proud to be associated with this club which cares for orphans with so much love. She also said that it was part of being an artist to be charitable.

This got me thinking: must celebrities be charitable to be successful? Yes event such as this concert puts Amal on the radar and it is true that some artists enjoy doing charity work, but is it essential?

People like Angelina Jolie take charity to an extreme but helping the less fortunate is not as big in the world of Arab entertainment! I think that if you have been blessed with the love of your fans and excessive amounts of money then it is your duty to help others. But what matters most is the intention behind the help. If you’re doing it for personal gain then although you may be helping people you will never get the feeling of satisfaction that charity work can give you.
