It has occurred to me, that the oddest outcome of competitive shows such as Super Star or Star Academy, is what I call the "Winner's Curse".
I think most of us crazed fans have noticed that the winner of these shows isn't necessarily the most successful, or even the most famous! Of course I'm not not talking about all cases.
Lets take Star Academy 1 for example, could you tell me where is Mohammad Attiah?? Yeah he may have had a song or two and I heard he is going in to acting, but his success is no where near that of Ahmed El Sherif!
Diana Karazon, she was all the hype for her 15 seconds of fame, but Melhem Zein seems to be the lucky one! Rouwaida as well, even Wael Mansour is now the presenter of Super Star!
Look at Ayman Al Attar, Where is he??? I saw one music video and nothing more! Just another example of this curse!
I can't say that this applies to every single winner of these shows but I have come to realize, we put so much effort and so much focus on who will win or who deserves to win, but in reality when it comes to fame it means close to nothing but 15 seconds of fame.
I think these shows are great in that we see these contestants grow and we grow to love them, or even hate them.
But the reality is, being a winner does not determine success.
You'll come to find it sometimes does the opposite!

I agree with Nana . its a good point you raise and its common among western shows aswell, like Australian Idol, X-Factor and even shows like america's next top model!, all them reality shows ! you know come to think of it.. if we think really hard we can count the succesful contestants on our hands!, i dont really watch superstar but from star academy, Josef Attieh (without fail! ), Ahmad el Sherrif & maybe shaza to a certain extent.. well.. they all get there 15 minutes of fame .. and then thats that .. haha but we still love to watch them !

I agree with you in most of it.
I belive it's the fans' and audience's part to get them up there, and from that point on, it's their effort to take that somewhere.
I mean i personaly was not a fan of Atteyah, Husam and Ayman..i thought there were more that deserves it way better.
Even last year's winner of the SuperStar, i don't belive that i've heared anything about Marwan since then and it's been almost a year now if not over!
with these shows, as you said it doesn't matter who wins at the end, as much rather as who's the smartest out of all, and in this case some names would be: Melhem, Ruwaida, Madaneya from super star. And ahmad, Hany, Sofia from star academy.
with that being said in regards to the last season that just passed by, i personally think Mirham, Quaider and saad will go way further than what Nader will, due to voice, popularity, carisma and other factors.
I think the only few winners that actually made something are Shatha Hassoun, Joseph Atteyya and Ibrahim Al-Hakamy, in my opinion that is.
Good Piece of writing by the way! :)

NOT True! Mohamad Attieh has a successful acting career!! He has starred in a couple of successful movies and is very famous at what he does. I don't think that Ahmad El Sharif is more successfull!!!
Get your facts together Waleg!!!
Ahbal,
You should address your comment to the writer of this article...
Ahbal you got to be kidding me , i lov attiah but his movies SUCKS big time! Ahbal get YOUR facts right!
What about Hicham, he is very succesfull in the line he chose. That's 3 winners out of 4 If u consider Mohamad Attieh not succesfull.
In star ac france out of the 7 seasons, 6 winners are very succesfull.
In nouvelle star all the winners have been sucessfull.
In american Idol it's the same.
So No there is no winner curse.
It's true that it isn't a guarantee that the winner will be succesful right away. But the Mohamed Attiah example were totally wrong. He has done two movies(bad or good, doesnt matter), and an album. That's pretty good, isn't it?
But Hicham, there you could speak of unsuccesful winner.
