On many occasions we have opened our TV sets during Ramadan and seen a remake of ‘1001 Nights’ or ‘Alf Leyla Wa Leyla’ and as interesting as the romantic and slightly stereotypical plot is usually, we love it. But this year something fresh and brand new is being prepared and goes by the name of ‘1001 Days’! Sounds strange I know! But it is a cartoon which stars ‘Sharazad’ and ‘Shahrayar’ in a whole new way and instead of it being about ‘Shahrayar’s’ night time stories it will be about how his Kingdom is running by day.

If the idea itself isn’t spectacular enough, May Ezzeldin will be playing ‘Shahrayar’ in the series of which 10 episodes have already been prepared. Although it is hard to imagine hearing May and not seeing her beautiful face on the screen, I am still extremely excited about this project. The thing is, is it healthy to alter something that is in fact part of our culture? Will this series deface ‘1001 Nights’ as we know it?! Only time will tell.
