Elie Saab: An Inspiration

Elie Saab

His inspiration is the simple Lebanese woman; his designs are elaborate but beautiful and colorful. Yes indeed I am speaking about Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab. Born in July of 1964, his beginning came in the form of a ‘Haute couture’ fashion show in his home country of Lebanon, after which the media kept its eye on him as they saw so much creativity and potential waiting to emerge.

This man has managed not only to challenge designers all over the world in an industry that is considered the ‘forte of the west’ but he also managed to create and maintain a happy family life. By nature Elie would disagree with my previous statement as he doesn’t feel that he challenges all the designers all over the world, instead he challenges just one, Himself.

He works 20 hours a day because he feels that you may be famous in one country but unknown in another and he wants people all over the world to be wearing his designs. He is in fact a true asset to the Arab world.

I really don't think the "simple" Lebanese woman is Elie Saab's inspiration.......... Certainly his clothes are beautiful and show the oriental beauty of design but most of us are simply concentrating on trying to get a good education and eventually find a job. I hardly think that our struggles are inspiration for Elie Saab. Is inspiration is the rich and famous! How many "simple" women can afford his clothes certainly nobody I know!!

I love this guy! He's a genius and his designs are so beautiful!
I think he's the inspiration to many young people around the Arab world ... if he made it big internationally, then why not me?

    Yet another mistake.

He was born in July 1964, not April

Elie Saab wasn't waiting to emerge: he made a huge entrance to the fashion world back in 2003 with his s/s Couture Collection and captured the eyes of many through his effortless and elegance dresses. In fact, his entrance was so huge that to many Elie Saab came out of nowhere and turned into an over-night successor. It was not long before the famous were wearing his clothes - ranging from celebs to Royals from all parts of the world. Up to this very day, things have not changed.

The designer that comes to my mind similar to Elie Saab is Valentino purely because both seem to understand what a woman wants and what makes her feel beautiful.
Another thing the two have in common is their pride in their home country and the desire in representing them and the beauty of it to the world; Valentino being Italian and Elie Saab being Lebanese.
So, when Elie refers to the simple Lebanese woman it shouldn't really come to much of a suprise. But what does he mean by "simple"? He has so much pride that anything and everything Lebanese is considered as beautiful!
Same can be said about Valentino and Italy.

Elie has a dream of making Lebanon one of the countries where fashion flags high alongside the likes of France, Milan and London. Just think, that is why he came up with the idea of "Mission Fashion". This man is amazing and is truly inspiring. He comes across with so much determination, creativity and beauty that becomes a joy to watch.

PS: Must admit though, I always prefer his couture over runway. His runways are like Versace and Roberto Cavalli whereas his couture is like the beautiful Valentino with a slight does of Versace.
Ohhh -- when I refer to Valentino, I refer to the old Valentino ( run by the retired Italian Fasion Designer Mr. Valentino himself) not the current Valentino.

Elie Saab is absolutely magnificent! From the beginning of his career to know he has designed exquisite garments that no girl would refuse. He is my upmost famous designer and I hope that one day having finished my fashion studies I make it into the industry, thanks to his inspiration.
