Kathem and Mayada

With each episode of Al Arrab we receive a mix of interesting information, inspiration and insight into the minds and souls of some of the biggest artists of all generations. And this week the artists were two people whose music defied the prospect of time and is listened to by all generation: Mayada El Henawi and Kathem El Saher. The episode began ,as usual, with the ‘Hits of a Lifetime’ which were ‘Ana Bashaka’ by Mayada and ‘Zedeeny Eshkan’ by Kathem. Each artist has several ‘titles’ that his fans give him or her and Nichan was intrigued as to which title each of his guests preferred. Mayada’s answer was simply that she agrees with whatever her fans feel, as for Kathem’s answer it showed how educated and professional he was.

According to Kathem he prefers the title of ‘amature’ because as soon as he is called a ‘pro’ music loses its beauty and becomes an occupation. In a series of clips created by each artist about who they feel is their ‘Godfather’ Kathem spoke of his days of poverty and hardship which he feels were the days of self discipline and education. As for Mayada she spoke about her ‘Godfather’ Baleegh Hamdy who was a huge inspiration to her. As always the sitting was full of controversial topics including Kathem’s difficulties in finding a wife to have children with. Another reportage documented the time Kathem spent with the legendary Nizar Kabani reading his poem ‘Zedeeny Eshkan’.

Medleys of beautiful unforgettable song, controversial questions and insightful answers. This episode was exactly what you could expect from these two stars.
