American Idol 2008 - Another Beatles Night!

I don't get it ... last week the Top 12 contestants went through the Beatles songbook and don't get me wrong, but they badgered those songs quite enough last week!
Why would there be another night for more Beatles songs to be mistreated?
I have to say, not all contestants were that bad, but some were really bad and you know it!
I totally agree with Simon, who said yesterday: "This is a very weird show tonight, and I'm not sure it was such a good idea doing Beatles again. Because we had such a great memory from last week, and this is all getting a bit strange."

In all cases, let's get to the 11 performances of last night ...
The first to sing was Amanda Overmyer and she did "Back in the USSR".
Her singing is just the same every week! She's not giving anything new, thus her performance wasn't at all surprising, but very predictable.
The second to sing was Kristy Lee Cook and she did "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away".
Kristy hasn't heard this song before ... and it shows! She didn't do good.
She's trying her best, but each time it's obvious that she can't handle the stage and the band!

The third to sing was David Archuleta and he did "The Long and Winding Road".
David did a whole lot better than last week and he sure was the best to sing tonight until now! The judges were so happy with his performance and they all praised him.
The fourth to sing was Michael Johns and he did "A Day in the Life".
This song is a difficult one, especially that he has to squeeze it into about 90 seconds!
It didn't bring out the best of his voice and it seems he didn't hit the right notes!
But he explains that he chose to sing it to honor a friend of his who recently passed away.
The fifth to sing was Brooke White and she did "Here Comes the Sun".
What was that!!! Brooke wasn't fair at all to this song! She didn't do well!

The sixth to sing was David Cook and he did "Day Tripper".
The good thing about his performance was that he gave the song a new soul ... he took it off the Beatles usual spirit and gave it a sorta funk rock vibe. At least he tried!
The seventh to sing was Carly Smithson and she did "Blackbird".
Carly does good and shows that she can sing with emotion and lots of feeling.
She controlled the song and did her best.
The eighth to sing was Jason Castro and he did "Michelle".
I love that song and thought Jason didn't do right by it! Sorry!
The ninth to sing was Syesha Mercado and she did "Yesterday".
Now, this is my favorite song ... Syesha does it well.
She put in 100% of what she's got and did well. Even Simon gives her a tiny word of praise, he told her: "I thought that was probably your best performance so far. It wasn't incredible, but you chose the best song... I think that song and that performance should keep you in this competition."

The tenth to sing was Chikezie and he did "I've Just Seen a Face".
He started off well until he played the Harmonica! That was bizarre!
But all in all, his performance wasn't that great ...
The last contestant to perform was Ramiele Malubay and she did "I Should Have Known Better".
She did her best but she should have chosen another song that would bring out all the potential of her voice!

All in all ... it's difficult to get the Beatles songs totally right.
Maybe next week, things will be better and the performances will start picking up!
This time it was a long show and i'm sorry to say this, but it was a tad bit boring!

I can't even start to predict who could leave tonight ... so many didn't do well ...
I'll just have to wait and see ...
